PM Modi Calls Cabinet Chintan Shivir to Review Governance and Policy Direction

New Delhi, September 22, 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to bring Union Cabinet ministers together for a two-day “Chintan Shivir” on September 23 and 24, 2026, at Seva Teerth in New Delhi. The retreat comes midway through the NDA government’s third term and is intended to provide a platform for reviewing the government’s functioning, strengthening coordination and discussing the policy direction ahead. In preparation for the meeting, PM Modi has formed several groups of eight ministers each. These groups have been tasked with deliberating on areas such as self-improvement, communication and administrative functioning, creating a framework for focused discussions before the main retreat. According to sources, ministers have also been asked to prepare report cards evaluating the work carried out by their respective ministries. The self-assessments are expected to examine progress made as well as operational outcomes, allowing ministers to review their departments’ functioning and identify areas that may need greater attention. The two-day Chintan Shivir is therefore expected to serve as both a review exercise and a platform for forward planning. With the government at the midpoint of its third term, the discussions will bring together assessments of ministry-level performance, administrative coordination and deliberations on the priorities ahead.
