India-Australia Energy Partnership Builds on Shared Strengths

New Delhi, September 23, 2026 India and Australia are looking to deepen their cooperation in the renewable energy sector by combining their respective expertise in areas such as solar energy and green hydrogen. Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen highlighted how the partnership is being shaped around the strengths and capabilities of both countries. Speaking about the cooperation, Bowen said, "The Energy Partnership is based on complementary strengths and what we can help each other with. Take the Solar Academy in Gujarat, for example, which will train 2,000 solar technicians...and the work we are doing on green hydrogen, for example, where Australia has good research and capacity, and India is working on complementary things. So it is very much a relationship built on complementary strengths." As part of the partnership, the Solar Academy in Gujarat will train 2,000 solar technicians, supporting the development of skilled manpower in the renewable energy sector. Green hydrogen is also emerging as an important area of collaboration, with Australia contributing its research and existing capabilities while India works on complementary initiatives. The cooperation reflects a broader effort by the two countries to combine their strengths in clean-energy technologies. Through collaboration in solar energy, green hydrogen and related fields, India and Australia are working to expand their renewable energy partnership.
