We Will Never Let You Down’: Poland PM Tusk’s Strong Message to Modi
New Delhi, October 22, 2026 Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk recalled Poland’s assistance to Indian students stranded in Ukraine during Russia’s invasion, highlighting the importance of solidarity and mutual trust between the two countries. Speaking alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a joint press interaction in New Delhi, Tusk described the support extended during the crisis as a reflection of the friendship shared by India and Poland. Referring to the critical period following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Tusk said Poland had taken care of Indian students who remained in the war-hit country. He expressed pride in updating Modi about Poland’s efforts, emphasising that the cooperation demonstrated the strength of the relationship between the two nations. Highlighting the spirit behind Poland’s assistance, Tusk said, “That in the very critical time of Russia's attack on Ukraine we took care of your students that stayed in Ukraine back then and I was very proud to tell you, to update you on our activities because this is solidarity, trust and friendship in practice and I am sure that we will never let you down and that you will never let us down.” India launched Operation Ganga to evacuate its citizens from Ukraine after the conflict began, with Poland playing an important role as a transit route for those returning home. The assistance provided during the evacuation highlighted the importance of international cooperation in responding to emergencies involving citizens abroad. Tusk’s remarks brought that period of cooperation back into focus, with his assurance that neither country would let the other down underscoring the importance he placed on maintaining a relationship built on trust, solidarity and practical support.
