New Delhi, October 8, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the state-of-the-art Navi Mumbai International Airport today, a milestone expected to strengthen connectivity, trade, and tourism in Mumbai, Pune, and the Konkan region. The airport, built at a cost of Rs 19,650 crore, is designed to initially handle two crore passengers annually, offering seamless access to domestic and global markets. The project has been executed through a Public-Private Partnership between Mumbai International Airport Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings Ltd, and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO). With a 3,700-metre runway, the airport is India’s largest Greenfield airport and will complement Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, helping transform the Mumbai Metropolitan Region into a multi-airport hub similar to global cities like London, Tokyo, and New York. Ahead of the inauguration, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the airport’s potential to redefine air travel and boost the state’s economic growth. “This airport will connect India to the world like never before,” he said, acknowledging the efforts of everyone involved in the project. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani also praised the dedication of the workforce behind the airport’s construction, noting that it was the result of collective effort and commitment. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the airport will bring direct access to international markets for industries in Pune, enhance tourism, and provide significant economic benefits to the surrounding region. Airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have already announced plans to start operations, connecting the new airport with various domestic cities. Once fully operational, Navi Mumbai International Airport is projected to serve 90 million passengers annually and handle over 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo. Its modern infrastructure and capacity will ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport while creating new opportunities for logistics, trade, and tourism. The inauguration will include a walkthrough of the airport by PM Modi, followed by an address to attendees. The event marks a significant step in India’s aviation growth strategy, promoting multi-airport systems and improving international and domestic connectivity. The airport is expected to elevate Maharashtra’s position as a global economic hub and facilitate smoother, faster travel for both business and leisure passengers.
