New Delhi, October 25, 2025 Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), operated by the GMR-led consortium, has announced the reopening of the fully upgraded Terminal 2 (T2) at Indira Gandhi International Airport starting the night of October 25–26, coinciding with the commencement of the winter flight schedule. The modernized terminal was inaugurated by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, CISF, and DIAL. The reopening of Terminal 2 marks a significant step in Delhi Airport’s transformation into a future-ready, passenger-centric facility. The terminal has been extensively redesigned to integrate advanced technology, automation, and modern infrastructure aimed at providing travelers with a seamless and efficient airport experience. Speaking at the inauguration, the minister highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s airports are rapidly evolving into world-class transit hubs. He emphasized that Delhi Airport, which handles nearly half of northern India’s passenger traffic and around 50,000 daily transfers, is emerging as a preferred transfer point. He congratulated DIAL and GMR for executing a smart modernization project that enhances convenience and accessibility for passengers. The upgraded Terminal 2 now features self-baggage drop systems, allowing passengers to check in their luggage independently and reducing waiting times. Six new passenger boarding bridges have been installed to enhance safety and accessibility. A virtual information desk provides real-time flight updates, gate navigation, and airport service details. The terminal’s interior has been upgraded with modern ceilings, skylights, improved flooring, and ambient lighting, creating a welcoming environment. Facilities for persons with reduced mobility have also been expanded, ensuring inclusivity. Significant mechanical and electrical enhancements have been completed to improve operations and passenger comfort. Advanced HVAC systems ensure optimal air quality, while upgraded fire safety, power infrastructure, and airside areas support safe and uninterrupted airport operations. Refurbished apron and airside facilities have been optimized for efficient aircraft movements and future traffic growth, reflecting DIAL’s commitment to long-term planning. The reopening of Terminal 2 also enables a restructuring of airline operations for greater efficiency. IndiGo will operate domestic flights numbered 6E 2000–2999 from Terminal 2, alongside existing services from Terminals 1 and 3. Air India will shift approximately 60 domestic flights from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2. Air India Express will operate domestic flights from Terminal 1, while SpiceJet and Akasa Air will continue in the same terminal. Together, Air India and IndiGo will manage around 120 daily domestic flights from the upgraded facility. DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar described the reopening as a major milestone in the airport’s modernization journey. He noted that the refurbished terminal, with its advanced technology, smart infrastructure, and enhanced accessibility, will significantly improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience. The reopening of T2 is expected to balance airline operations across terminals and strengthen Delhi Airport’s position as India’s leading aviation hub, ensuring the facility is equipped to meet growing passenger demands while setting a benchmark for future airport development.
