Faridabad, November 4 In a shocking incident in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony in Faridabad, a 19-year-old boy allegedly shot a 17-year-old girl after she stopped speaking to him. The incident took place on Monday evening, and the accused is currently on the run, police said on Tuesday. According to police officials, the girl, a Class XII student at a private school, was returning home from a private library when the accused attacked her. The suspect, armed with a country-made pistol, fired at her from close range, hitting her left forearm and shoulder. The girl sustained bullet and splinter injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is stable. Police said the accused threw his weapon at the spot and fled on a motorcycle immediately after the shooting. Multiple police teams have been formed to trace and arrest him. Inspector Shamsher Singh, Station House Officer of City Ballabgarh Police Station, said the incident occurred between 5 pm and 5:30 pm. In her statement to the police, the victim said she had known the accused for about a year, as both used to visit the same library to study. However, she had stopped talking to him about two weeks ago, which reportedly angered him. “The boy had been trying to speak to her, but when she continued to ignore him, he became aggressive,” said Inspector Singh. “CCTV footage shows that he waited for her outside the library and then tried to shoot her in the head from very close range. Fortunately, he missed. The girl survived with injuries to her arm and shoulder.” The suspect’s pistol, a crude locally made weapon, has been recovered from the scene. Police are analyzing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify his movements after the incident. “We have several teams working to track him down. He will be arrested soon,” Singh added. The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the City Ballabgarh Police Station on Monday night under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder). Residents of Shyam Colony have expressed shock and outrage at the incident, demanding stricter measures against such acts of violence. Locals told reporters that the area is usually quiet and peaceful, and such incidents are rare. Police sources said preliminary investigations suggest the accused had been stalking the girl for several days before the attack. Investigators are also examining whether the accused obtained the firearm illegally and how he gained access to it. Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified information about the case on social media and to report any leads about the suspect’s whereabouts. The victim remains under observation at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Police officials said they are providing her family with necessary protection and support while the search for the shooter continues.
