Dehradun, Nov 9, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand’s formation by inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹8,140 crore across sectors like drinking water, energy, irrigation, education, sports, and urban development. Addressing the people of “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand,” PM Modi paid tribute to those who sacrificed for the creation of the state and recalled the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in fulfilling this long-cherished dream. Reflecting on Uttarakhand’s growth, he highlighted the remarkable progress in the last 25 years: the state budget has grown from ₹4,000 crore to over ₹1 lakh crore, electricity generation has quadrupled, road networks have doubled, and air travel has expanded dramatically. The number of engineering and medical colleges has also seen exponential growth, while vaccination coverage now reaches nearly every village. During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated projects worth ₹930 crore and laid foundations for projects valued at ₹7,210 crore. Key initiatives include the Song Dam Drinking Water Project in Dehradun and the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital, along with water supply schemes, solar power plants, an AstroTurf Hockey Ground, and a Women’s Sports College in Champawat. A state-of-the-art dairy plant in Nainital was also announced. PM Modi additionally released ₹62 crore under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana to benefit over 28,000 farmers. He underscored ongoing infrastructure projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore, including the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail link, Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, and ropeways to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib. Highlighting Uttarakhand’s spiritual significance, he emphasized developing it as the “Spiritual Capital of the World” and promoting wellness tourism through yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy centers. The PM encouraged growth in local products, noting that 15 items, including Bedu fruit and Badri cow ghee, have received GI tags. He stressed support for MSMEs, handicrafts, and food processing, while highlighting Uttarakhand’s expanding tourism potential, including adventure, winter, and eco-tourism, and events like the Pithoragarh high-altitude marathon and Adi Kailash Yatra. Commending the state government’s initiatives, PM Modi praised the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, anti-conversion and riot control laws, and disaster management efforts. He urged Uttarakhandis to envision the next 25 years of development, aiming to make the state a key part of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. The Centre reaffirmed its full support for the state’s growth, promising continued cooperation in every developmental endeavor. Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Union Minister Ajay Tamta attended the celebrations, which also featured the release of a commemorative postal stamp marking the Silver Jubilee of Uttarakhand’s formation.
