New Delhi | November 12, 2025 India and Nepal have begun their 9th Annual Border Coordination Meeting in New Delhi today, aiming to strengthen cooperation and address key security concerns along their shared border. The three-day meeting, scheduled from November 12 to 14, brings together senior officials from both sides to discuss cross-border security, crime prevention, and better information-sharing systems. The Indian delegation is being led by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Sanjay Singhal, while the Nepalese team is headed by Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector General Raju Aryal, according to an official statement by the SSB. This year’s discussions are significant as they mark the first high-level interaction between the two border forces since the recent youth-led protests in Kathmandu. Both sides are expected to review ongoing challenges along the 1,751-km-long open Indo-Nepal border, which allows easy movement of people and goods but also poses challenges related to smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal trade. Officials said the agenda will focus on joint border patrols, real-time intelligence exchange, and measures to boost coordination between field units stationed on both sides. The two delegations are also likely to discuss strategies for disaster response and improving infrastructure along border outposts. The annual coordination meetings between the SSB and APF have been taking place since 2012, alternating between India and Nepal each year. The last meeting was held in Kathmandu in 2024, reaffirming the long-standing commitment to peace, trust, and mutual understanding. Both countries view these talks as a vital step in maintaining a secure and friendly border, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and ensuring the welfare of border communities. Officials expressed optimism that the ongoing discussions will deepen the professional bond between the two forces and pave the way for more efficient, technology-driven border management in the years ahead.
