Jailed JD(U) Leader Anant Singh Secures Mokama Win with 28,000+ Vote Margin
Anant Singh, the JD(U) leader currently in jail, has won the Mokama assembly seat with a commanding lead of over 28,000 votes. He secured 91,416 votes, defeating RJD’s Veena Devi, who received 63,210 votes. This marks Singh’s fifth win from Mokama, proving his continued influence in the constituency despite legal challenges. Singh began his political career in 2005 and has remained a prominent figure in Bihar politics ever since. Over the years, he has won as a JD(U) candidate, an independent, and later with the RJD. Even after losing the seat in 2022 due to a conviction in an arms case, his family retained political control when his wife, Neelam Devi, won the by-election. Recently, Singh was arrested in connection with the murder of Dular Singh Yadav, a gangster-turned-politician. Despite facing 28 criminal cases, his strong voter support shows his enduring political clout in Mokama. Veena Devi, though a major challenger, could not overcome Singh’s popularity. This result highlights the complexities of Bihar politics, where strong local leaders with long-standing influence continue to command voter loyalty.
