Jhansi | Dec 07, 2025 Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said on Sunday that the state government is working on a focused plan to transform the Bundelkhand region, aiming to develop it in the same way the National Capital Region grew over the years. Speaking in Jhansi, he said the government wants the region to become an industrial hub that can generate strong job opportunities and uplift people living in backward areas. Maurya explained that the goal is to bring large-scale development to Bundelkhand through a combination of infrastructure projects, industrial investments and welfare schemes. According to him, the “double engine government” at the state and central level is committed to improving the lives of the poor, and Bundelkhand is one of its prime priorities. During his visit, he attended a review meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He appreciated the progress of the SIR across Uttar Pradesh and said that once the process is completed, it will help ensure cleaner voting practices and reduce issues such as booth capturing. He added that the revision of electoral rolls will support the long-term national goals of building a developed Uttar Pradesh and a developed India by 2047. Maurya also spoke about the government’s plan to connect three crore women across the state with self-help groups. Out of these, the state aims to help one crore women become financially strong enough to earn the title of “Lakhpati Didis.” He said women’s empowerment remains at the center of Uttar Pradesh’s development policies, and the government intends to keep increasing opportunities for them. When asked about Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s criticism that the SIR exercise was being used by the BJP to influence voters, Maurya dismissed it. He said Akhilesh Yadav was upset after the performance of his party in Bihar and claimed that the SP chief misunderstood the political situation in Uttar Pradesh. According to the deputy CM, the people of the state have already chosen the direction they want to move in, and the opposition’s claims do not match ground reality. Maurya further commented on the political atmosphere by saying that Akhilesh Yadav has been restless after the result in Bihar and is now making baseless statements. He added that the Samajwadi Party should not expect a major comeback before 2047, as the public has shown clear support for the development-oriented work happening across the state. He also highlighted how Bundelkhand, long seen as a region held back by drought and lack of industry, is now being prepared for major expansion. He said the government is determined to provide industrial growth, road networks, better electricity supply, and local employment so that the area can finally break past cycles of poverty. He said the vision is to make Bundelkhand strong enough not only to support its own population but also to attract new investments.
