Ram Janmabhoomi Movement Leader and Former BJP MP Ramvilas Vedanti Passes Away in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa
Senior Ram Janmabhoomi movement leader and former BJP Member of Parliament Ramvilas Vedanti passed away on Monday at a hospital in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. His death has deeply saddened followers, political leaders and saints, especially in Ayodhya, where he remained closely associated with religious and social work for decades. Vedanti had travelled to Rewa on December 10 to attend a Ramkatha programme. During his stay, his health deteriorated and he was admitted to a local hospital. According to Ayodhya mayor Girish Pati Tripathi, Vedanti suffered a heart attack on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment. Doctors attempted to shift him to AIIMS Bhopal through an air ambulance, but the aircraft could not land in Rewa due to dense fog. He passed away shortly after. Ramvilas Vedanti was counted among the prominent faces of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He served as the executive president of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and was known for his strong involvement in religious activities linked to Ayodhya. In his political career, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh and Machhali Shahar constituencies in Uttar Pradesh as a BJP leader. His successor, Mahant Raghavesh Das, said Vedanti’s mortal remains are being brought to Ayodhya for the last rites. Large numbers of followers are expected to gather in the holy city to pay their final respects. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over Vedanti’s demise. Calling him a key pillar of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, he said Vedanti’s passing is an irreparable loss to the spiritual world and Sanatan culture. Tributes continue to pour in as many remember Ramvilas Vedanti for his dedication, leadership and lifelong connection with Ayodhya.
