Kolkata | 4 Feb 2026 A Turkish Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Istanbul made an emergency landing at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Wednesday after a fire broke out in its right engine. The flight, Turkish 727, touched down safely at around 2:49 pm, with all 236 passengers on board unharmed, airport officials confirmed. According to the NSCBI Airport Director, the pilot informed Kolkata air traffic control about the possible engine fire and decided to land immediately. The aircraft is currently undergoing a thorough inspection to ensure it is safe for future flights. The incident began shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Teknath Sitaula, General Manager of the airport, told sources that “The Turkish Airlines with flight number 'THY-727' caught fire within four minutes of takeoff, the right engine caught fire. The flight took off at 1:28 PM (Local Time).” The pilot quickly shut down the engine and assessed the situation while flying west of Kathmandu.
