Siddharthnagar | 15 March 2026 A tragic accident occurred in Siddharthnagar when a private bus carrying people to a funeral in Ayodhya came in contact with a high-tension electricity wire. The incident resulted in the death of one person, while three others were seriously injured after receiving electric shocks inside the bus. According to reports, the accident took place around 2:30 PM on Sunday near Karaunda Nankar under the Chilhiya police station area. The bus was carrying around 60 villagers from Lakhanpara village who were travelling to Ayodhya for the last rites of 70-year-old Ramnaresh Sahni, who had passed away on Saturday. While the bus was about two kilometres away from the village, a high-tension power line hanging above the road touched the top of the vehicle. As soon as the wire came in contact with the bus, electricity spread through the vehicle, causing panic among the passengers. Four people were severely burned in the incident and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Among them, 60-year-old Shyamsundar, son of Sitai Gupta from Nanpara, died soon after reaching the hospital. Three others — Jagdish, Ram Ajor and the bus conductor Sagar remain seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment. The accident has raised serious questions about the negligence of the electricity department. Local residents claim that the power lines passing above the road had been hanging dangerously low for a long time, but no action was taken to fix the issue. Villagers said that this negligence has now cost a life. Following the incident, the atmosphere in Lakhanpara village has turned sombre. The family and villagers who had set out to perform the last rites of one person returned with the tragic news of another death. Officials have announced compensation for the victims. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vivekanand Mishra stated that the family of the deceased will receive ₹5 lakh as compensation, while the injured will be given ₹1 lakh each by the electricity department.
