Opposition Renews Parliament Protest Over NEET Controversy

New Delhi, July 22, 2026 The political standoff over the alleged NEET paper leak continued to dominate Parliament on Wednesday as Opposition parties intensified their protest, demanding accountability from the government. The demonstration reflected the Opposition's insistence on ministerial responsibility before any formal discussion on the issue, keeping the controversy at the centre of the ongoing parliamentary session. A day after Congress leaders led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna outside the Prime Minister's residence, Congress MPs arrived at Parliament dressed in black and held a protest outside the gate. They were joined by several Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party MPs, who wore black scarves in solidarity. The protesters reiterated their demand for the resignations of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Opposition has also been seeking a discussion in Parliament on the alleged NEET paper leak and the police action against student protesters in Delhi. "Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign first, and then there will be discussion. After the lathi charge on so many students, what will be the discussion now? Dharmendra Pradhan must resign," Congress MP Pawan Khera told NDTV. According to sources, the government has agreed to hold a discussion on the issue in both Houses of Parliament, while the Speaker will decide the rule for the debate after consulting leaders of all political parties. Rahul Gandhi has also demanded the resignations of Amit Shah and Dharmendra Pradhan, action against police officials involved in the crackdown on students, and an apology from the Prime Minister. As the deadlock continues, both the government and the Opposition remain firm on their respective positions. While the Opposition has linked any parliamentary debate to the resignation of the Education Minister, the BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of using students as "ammunition for his politics" and announced plans to organise protests outside Congress offices across the country. The developments indicate that the NEET controversy is likely to remain a key issue in Parliament in the coming days.
