Rekha Gupta’s Big Attack on AAP MLA Over Viral Video

New Delhi, August 11, 2026 A fresh political controversy has erupted in Delhi after a viral video showed AAP’s Kirari MLA Anil Jha Vats signing documents for residents while dressed in a vest and shorts. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticised the MLA’s conduct in the Assembly, particularly because women from his constituency were present while the documents were being signed. The video shows Jha seated cross-legged in his chair with a saffron cloth covering his lap as residents, including several women, wait in line with application forms. The forms were reportedly related to the Delhi government’s financial assistance scheme for women. Reacting to the MLA’s attire, Rekha Gupta said, "Your behaviour is shameful. You should at least dress properly when women come to you to get their papers signed,". She also demanded the cancellation of Vats’ Assembly membership, saying, "This sort of indecent behaviour from an MLA cannot be tolerated. His Assembly membership should be cancelled," amid protests from AAP MLAs. Gupta further accused the AAP legislator of making obscene gestures during the Assembly proceedings and called for action against him. Vats rejected the allegation and asked the Chief Minister to provide evidence, saying, "She should show the video of me making any wrong gestures. She doesn't have answers on people's problems, so she is making all these allegations," he later said. The controversy has emerged alongside a political dispute over the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, which was launched on August 1 to provide ₹2,500 per month to eligible women. The Delhi government said the scheme recorded more than 5.14 lakh registrations within seven days, while over 2.18 lakh applications had been submitted. Rekha Gupta described the response as unprecedented and said it reflected women’s confidence in the scheme, while the AAP has questioned its eligibility criteria, claiming that several poor women could be excluded. The confrontation over the MLA’s conduct has now intensified the broader political battle between the Delhi government and the opposition.
