Sonipat Baby Battles Severe Injuries After Pit Bull Attack

New Delhi, September 18, 2026 A six-month-old baby was severely injured after being attacked by a pet pit bull in Sikka Colony, Sonipat, Haryana. The incident, captured on CCTV, has raised serious concerns over pet safety and the precautions required when powerful dogs are kept in residential areas, particularly around young children. According to reports, the infant was being carried by an aunt when the dog suddenly attacked. CCTV footage reportedly shows the pit bull lunging at the baby, grabbing the child and dragging the infant as people tried to intervene. The aunt was also attacked while attempting to save the baby. The child was taken for treatment and later referred to PGI Rohtak because of the severity of the injuries. The family has also raised concerns over the treatment expenses. According to reports, the dog’s owner initially provided some financial assistance but later did not agree to bear the full medical costs. At the time of the reports, the family had not filed a police complaint. Meanwhile, suggestions that the dog may have been hungry or that something triggered the attack remain unverified unless established through evidence. The Sonipat incident has once again put the spotlight on responsible pet ownership and the need for effective safety measures. Whatever the reason behind the animal’s behaviour, the immediate concern remains the severely injured infant and the circumstances that allowed such an attack to take place.
