Thar Crash Kills Lawyer, Wife Left Critical in Greater Noida

New Delhi, September 22, 2026 A 40-year-old Supreme Court lawyer lost his life while his wife suffered critical injuries after a speeding Thar SUV allegedly crashed into their scooter in Greater Noida West. The incident took place in the Itera area, where the impact threw the couple onto the road. The SUV was later abandoned at the spot, while its driver reportedly fled and remained untraced for more than 20 hours, according to the victim’s elder brother. Neeraj and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of locals and police. Doctors declared Neeraj dead on arrival, while his wife continues to undergo treatment. His elder brother, Amit Kumar, alleged that the Thar was being driven recklessly and had entered the wrong side of the road. “The SUV Thar was coming from the wrong side of the road. You can watch the video. The Thar was being driven at a very high speed. They were overspeeding," Amit said. "My brother is no more. He was a lawyer practising in the Supreme Court. It was not his fault. He was driving in his own lane when the Thar came from the wrong side," Amit added. Describing his sister-in-law’s condition, he said, "My sister-in-law is currently in a coma. Since yesterday, the doctors have raised medical bills of around Rs 7 lakh. The entire left side of her body has become paralysed. She has suffered 18 fractures. Her pelvic region has been completely crushed, and she has already undergone multiple surgeries," he said. Amit further claimed that eyewitnesses alleged the occupants of the Thar had been drinking. "Eyewitnesses claim that the occupants were drunk. There were four boys in the vehicle. Eyewitnesses managed to catch two of them, while the other two fled from the spot," he said. Police have seized the SUV and launched a search for the driver. Neeraj’s body has been sent for post-mortem after inquest proceedings, while a formal complaint is being registered based on information provided by the family. The investigation will now focus on tracing the driver and establishing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Meanwhile, Neeraj’s family is dealing with his death as his wife continues to receive treatment for severe injuries.
