The incident took place in the Kothi police station area, where the two accused were reportedly running a clinic without any valid licence or medical qualification. Police said the woman was suffering from severe abdominal pain linked to a stone-related issue. Wanting quick relief for his wife, Tehbahadur took her to Shri Damodar Aushdhalaya, a small clinic operating in the area. At the clinic, operator Gyan Prakash Mishra allegedly told the husband that the pain was caused by stones and suggested surgery as the only way forward. He estimated the procedure to cost Rs 25,000, and the husband deposited Rs 20,000 before the surgery began. In his complaint, Tehbahadur stated that Mishra, whom he described as a “quack,” appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the operation. He further alleged that Mishra began the surgical procedure after watching a YouTube tutorial, raising grave doubts about his expertise and intentions. According to the complaint, Mishra made a deep and dangerous incision in the woman’s abdomen, cutting several veins and causing massive internal damage. Despite being rushed for help, the woman’s condition worsened rapidly, and she died the next evening on December 6. Mishra’s nephew, identified as Vivek Kumar Mishra, assisted him through the procedure. Police later said that Vivek is employed at an Ayurvedic hospital in Raebareli, and the illegal clinic had been operating for years, allegedly shielded by his government job. Following the tragedy, Kothi SHO Amit Singh Bhadoriya confirmed that a serious case has been registered against both men for causing death by negligence, along with relevant sections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, as the victim belonged to a Scheduled Caste community. Both accused are currently absconding, and police teams have been deployed to track them down. Authorities say they are making all efforts to ensure the accused are arrested at the earliest.
