Lucknow | December 20, 2025 The winter session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature, which began on Friday, will continue till December 24, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced in Lucknow on Friday evening. He said the state government was keen on holding a longer session but agreed to a shorter schedule as many legislators are currently occupied with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Speaking to the media after attending the first day of the session, Adityanath explained that the SIR exercise is a crucial process aimed at ensuring accuracy in voter lists and strengthening transparency in the democratic system. Due to this responsibility, several members requested a limited session duration, which the government accepted in the larger interest. The chief minister said the session, scheduled from December 19 to December 24, will focus on essential legislative business. These include discussions on supplementary budget demands of various departments and deliberations marking the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” a song deeply linked with India’s freedom movement and constitutional recognition. Adityanath appealed to all members of the House, cutting across party lines, to use the session productively by raising issues related to public welfare and the overall development of Uttar Pradesh. He said the government is fully prepared to respond to all questions and engage in meaningful debate on matters of public importance. Referring to the all-party meeting held on Thursday, the chief minister said it was clearly conveyed that the state government has no hesitation in discussing any issue raised by the opposition. On the opening day, proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly were adjourned early after members paid tribute to Sudhakar Singh, the Samajwadi Party MLA from Ghosi, who passed away last month. Members across parties observed silence to honour the late legislator before the House was adjourned for the day. Adityanath expressed confidence that despite its shorter duration, the winter session would play an important role in addressing legislative priorities and pushing forward the state’s development agenda.
