Rain Red Alert in Noida, Warnings Across Delhi-NCR as Heavy Downpour Continues

New Delhi, August 29, 2025 The Delhi-NCR region woke up to a heavy downpour on Friday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing multiple warnings across the national capital and adjoining areas. Noida and Ghaziabad have been placed under a red alert, while parts of Delhi remain under orange and yellow warnings. IMD Alerts According to the IMD’s latest nowcast, the rainfall in Noida and Ghaziabad intensified through the morning, prompting officials to elevate the alert level from yellow to red. This indicates the possibility of very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in the two key Uttar Pradesh districts bordering Delhi. In Delhi, the IMD has issued an orange alert for South West Delhi, Central Delhi, Shahdara, and South Delhi. Other parts of the capital, which had not been under any significant weather warning earlier, have now been placed under a yellow alert as the rain spread to wider areas. Waterlogging and Traffic Snarls The impact of the rain was visible on the streets of the capital. Visuals from Sangam Vihar’s Neem Chowk Road showed vehicles navigating through waist-deep water, causing massive traffic snarls. Commuters reported long delays as waterlogging disrupted traffic flow at several choke points across the city. Local authorities have warned residents to avoid non-essential travel in affected zones. Emergency teams have been deployed in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Regional Impact of Monsoon Rains The heavy showers in Delhi-NCR are part of a broader spell of monsoon rains wreaking havoc in northern India. In Himachal Pradesh, flash floods and landslides have left large swathes of the state paralysed. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 524 roads, including two national highways, are currently blocked. Over 1,200 electricity distribution transformers have been damaged, and 416 water supply schemes are non-functional, adding to the woes of residents. Jammu and Kashmir has also been battered by intense rains, with cloudbursts reported in several areas. Rescue and relief operations are underway as rivers and streams swell dangerously. Punjab too is reeling under monsoon fury, with the Indian Army stepping in to assist in rescue operations. Officials said 835 villages remain inundated as rivers overflow, displacing thousands of people. Relief camps have been set up in the worst-affected districts, while efforts are being made to restore basic services. Advisory to Residents The IMD has urged residents of Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi to exercise caution and prepare for possible flooding, disruptions in electricity, and travel delays. With more rain expected through the day, the red alert in Noida indicates that conditions could deteriorate further. Civic bodies have activated disaster management teams to address emergencies and are monitoring the situation closely. The Delhi Traffic Police has also advised commuters to check traffic updates before heading out. With monsoon rains continuing to pound north India, residents are bracing for more disruptions in the coming days. The focus now is on minimizing damage and ensuring safety as rescue operations intensify across affected states. Red Alert in Noida, Heavy Rain Batters Delhi-NCR Delhi-NCR woke up to a rain-soaked Friday as the IMD issued a red alert for Noida & Ghaziabad and an orange warning for parts of Delhi. Streets in several areas, including Sangam Vihar, saw heavy waterlogging with vehicles struggling to move.
